The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs has developed a credentialing program and is taking applications for the designation of New Hampshire Chief Fire Officer (NHCFO). This program and designation are in place to further enhance and recognize the professionalism of Chief Fire Officers within the State of New Hampshire. The program supports the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation offered by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). The New Hampshire Chief Fire Officer (NHCFO) designation offered by the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs does not replace and is not a substitute for the CFO designation offered by the CPSE.

The NHCHO designation is voluntary and recognizes education, training, and experience relative to the position of chief fire officer. The New Hampshire Chief Fire Officer designation is solely administered by the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs. There are two levels of designation:

  • New Hampshire Chief Fire Officer I
  • New Hampshire Chief Fire Officer II

To be eligible for the NHCFO designation, the applicant must be a member of the NHAFC in good standing. Additional requirements are:

  • NHCFO I: Candidates must hold the rank of captain or higher for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of application submittal.
  • NHCFO I: Attain at least 100 points in experience, education, and training.
  • NHCFO II: Candidates must hold the rank of Deputy, Assistant or higher for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of application submittal.
  • NHFCO II: Attain at least 150 points in experience, education, and training.

The designation will be awarded upon completion of the application, submittal to the NHAFC CFO Review Committee, $35.00 registration fee, and determination by the Committee that the candidate meets all requirements of the application. Designees will receive an NHAFC NH CFO Certificate and Commendation Bar.

The NHCFO designation is awarded for three years. In order to maintain the designation, NH CFO I and II designees must 1) maintain membership in the NHAFC, 2) meet or exceed the rank requirement of the designation achieved, and 3) submit a Renewal Application within 3 months of the 3-year date listed on the awarded NH CFO Certificate.
