Cybersecurity Threats to Fire Departments and Emergency Services

The Emergency Services Sector (ESS) has become increasingly dependent on cyber-based infrastructure and operations, including emergency operations communications, data management, and electronic security systems. Because of this reliance, cyber infrastructure across this sector may be a key target for cyberattacks. From targeted incidents, such as ransomware attacks, to unintentional acts, such as failure to properly install security updates, poor cybersecurity practices can cause severe operational problems and the needless expenditure of funds. Many cybersecurity incidents can be prevented with a few simple, low-cost protective measures.  Representatives from Primex³, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), NH Department of Information Technology (DoIT), and the Municipal Cyber Defense Program (MCDP) will provide guidance and resources for your agency to assess and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
